Died
In Centerville, Iowa, May 18th, 1883, at 9:20 a.m., Mrs. Sarah Craig Harper, wife of John Harper, Sr., aged 49 years. Funeral was from the family residence, Saturday, May 19th, at 4 o'clock p.m.

Sister Harper was born and reared in County Louth, Ireland. She was married to John Harper, Sr., in the city of Belfast, Ireland, in 1850. They removed at once to the United States, spent eighteen months in the city of New York, about two years in Ohio, and in Centerville, Iowa, thirty years.

Mrs. Harper joined the Presbyterian church at Dundalk, Ireland, in early girlhood. For many generations before she was born her ancestors had been members of the Presbyterian church. With her husband, she united with the Presbyterian church in this city, during the pastorage of the Rev. Mathew H. Smith, and was distinguished for strict fidelity to her covenant obligations. She was not a spasmodic Christian, but an everyday Christian, who lived religiously at home and abroad. Blessed with an amiable disposition, calm and even in temperament, and having, withall, marked decision of character, and solid common sense, she won the respect and affection of a large circle of devoted friends, whose verdict is that Mrs. Harper was a woman of superior Christian character and worth.

Sister Harper had been in failing health about four years previous to her death. Last winter she passed through a long and serious illness, from which her friends supposed she could not recover, but as spring approached she rallied once more, and was able, for several weeks, to go about the house. Brother Harper had arranged with her for a journey to Washington Territory. She had her trunk packed, and was looking forward to it with anticipations of a pleasant trip and of favorable results to her health; but last Tuesday she was taken with a sudden relapse, grew gradually worse and fell asleep on Friday morning. "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord."

Her husband, three sons and many relatives and friends survive to lament the seeming untimely loss of a most excellent and faithful wife, mother and friend. In this dark hour Messrs. Harper and sons have the sincere sympathy of their fellow citizens.
