Lawrence Stanley KlepferLawrence Stanley Klepfer, 80, a retired advertising executive, died February 28 at hospice care in Fitchburg, Wisconsin of complications from a fall, and dementia.
Mr. Klepfer was born in Centerville, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa, having earlier received officers training at Perdue and Northwestern universities.
He was a commissioned officer Indy United States Navy, and landed at Iwo Jima during World War II. Mr. Klepfer was a journalist with the Des Moines register Tribune early in his career. He later worked in advertising sales for farm publications in Iowa. In 1959, Mr. Klopfer moved to the Chicago area where you served as advertising manager for the Rotarian magazine until his retirement. Numerous business assignments for Rotary international took him to Japan, Australia, Spain, Mexico, Hawaii and Northern Europe. He shared his love of travel with his family, traveling extensively with them during the 1960s and 1970s. An avid golfer, amateur painter and technology enthusiast, mr. Klepfer continue to enjoy his interests until falling ill shortly after the death of his wife of 47 years, the late Mary Alice Russell Klepfer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cecil Lavergne Moore, and father, Laurence Christopher Klepfer. He is survived by his two children Thomas (Margaret Olson) Klepfer of Verona, Wisconsin, and Marjorie (ThomasD.) Moore, of Silver Spring, Maryland, and six grandchildren.Graveside services will be held at Verona Cemetery, Verona, Wisconsin today, Tuesday, March 2, at 10:00 a.m.
A visitation will be held at the Joyce-Ryan Verona funeral home on Monday, March 1, 2004.
