W. D. FENTON DIES AT 67 YEARS
FUNERAL THURSDAY
MEMBER OF ONE OF CENTERVILLE’S OLD FAMILIES
Had Long Sickness
Was Prominent in Masonic Lodge Work, Aged Mother LivingWillis D.Fenton 67 years of age, and a member of one of Centerville's pioneer families, died at the Fenton home at Maple and 12th Street at 6:45 p.m. yesterday following illness of a year which was super induced by anemia.
Mr. Fenton was born in this city January 19, 1860, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. B. Fenton. After attending school here he went to the Bryant and Stratton business College in Chicago, for further education. Entering on his business career, he traveled for the Wilson Brothers haberdashery company and was highly successful. After being on the road for a number of years he went into the clothing business here in a store which stood on the site of the building recently occupied by the Kraft-Triebswetter company. Mr. Fenton's father was one of the pioneer merchants of the city.
It was in 1884 that Mr. Fenton united in marriage with Miss Irene Bissette. To their union one son, Burt, was born and survives his father's death. Mrs. Fenton preceded her husband in death many years ago, being fatally injured in a runaway accident. Beside his son and mother, Mr. Fenton leaves one sister, Mrs. J. A. Bradley, of the city.
Mr. Fenton was a man of excellent character and had many close friends here, who mourn his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and they Masonic fraternity. In the local Lodge he held several offices and was also a member of the Shriners and Knights Templar.
His body will lie in state at the Fenton home this evening and maybe viewed by friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. the Rev. Mott R. Sawyers Will preach the funeral sermon. Burial will be made in Oakland cemetery.
