JOHN HENRY COLE, PIONEER RESIDENT OF COUNTY, TAKEN
Long Illness Proves Fatal in Appanoose Farmer; Funeral Services at Concord Sunday

John Henry Cole, 83, resident of Appanoose County for almost 3/4 quarters of a century, died of illness at his home nearPlano at 9:30 p.m .l Last night. Mr. Cole had been in failing health for some time and last summer his ailment was serious enough to make hospital treatment in Centerville necessary.

Born in Indiana, Mr. Cole moved to this county with his parents when he was 10 years of age. With the exception of about six months spent in Kansas, he spent the remaining years of his life in Appanoose County. For almost 50 years he had lived on the same farm, 4 1/2 miles northwest of Plano, and had made forming his occupation all his life.

In death he is survived by his aged widow and four children, Mrs. Charles Fenton, of Brushy, Elmer E. James W. and Dempsey D. all of the same vicinity northwest of Plano.
Funeral services will be held at the Concord Church Sunday afternoon 2:00 p.m.

John Henry Cole
John Henry Cole, son of William and Catherine Cole, was born at Lancaster, Tipton County, Indiana, January 15, 1857 and passed away at his home near Plano February 9, 1940 at the age of 83 years, 25 days. He came to Appanoose county with his parents when he was 9 years of age ad has resided in this county to the ay of his death.

He was united in marriage to Laura May Stanley, daughter of Jeff P. And Margaret Stanley of Appanoose County, January 12, 1878. To this union were born four children: Alice May Fenton, Elmer E. James W., and Dempsey D., all of Plano, Iowa. Also two granddaughters and 3 grandsons and 4 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was the last of the Cole family, being preceded in death by his father, mother, 2 sisters, Amanda Ellen and Malina Alice, and brother Jacob Oterbein Cole.

Services were held at the Concord Church at 2:00 p.m. the 11th of February by George W.Swan,
