Margaret Curtis
Margaret Curtis was born in Greene County, Illinois, August 15, 1836, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Bowers of Topeka, Kansas, June 6, 1919, aged 83 years, nine months and 22 days.When 15 years of age she moved with her parents to Appanoose County, Iowa, where three years later she was married to Jeptha Standley, who, February 1, 1918 was called home.
To this union nine children were given. There were one son and daughters, Mr. A. Standley and Mrs. J. W. Chadd of this city. Mrs. John Cole of Plano, Iowa; Mrs. O. D. Haney of Kansas City, Missouri, Mrs. Jane. H. Powers; J. M. Smith and T. J. Haney of Topeka, two children died in infancy. In 1885 the family moved to Republic County, Kansas, locating 2 miles north of Courtland to spend their declining days. The deceased was a faithful member of the Christian church.
She leaves besides her children, 28 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends.
The funeral services were held Sunday at the Christian church, Elder Jewett preaching. All the children attended the funeral.
