Dr. Edward Kelly, 72, of Centerville died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at his home.
He was born Sept. 5, 1925 in Sigourney, the son of Dr. Richard and Cecilia Kelly, D.D.S.
He married Theresa Jaeger June 1, 1950, in Keota. She survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Michael Kelly of Lafayette, Colo., Peter Kelly of Riodoso, N.M., Edward "Dan" Kelly and Thomas Kelly, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Patrick Kelly of Centerville; three daughters, Mary Bernard of Traer, Ann Maletta of Rock Island, Ill., and Theresa Maloof of Bellvue, Colo.; two brothers, Robert Kelly and Joseph Kelly; a sister, Mary Lobdell; and eight grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Thomas Kelly, M.D., and Richard Kelly,Jr., D.D.S.
He was a graduate of Sigourney High School. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He earned a bachelor's degree at Creighton University and graduated from Creighton Dental School in 1953. He began his dental practice in September 1953. He served as president of the Southeast Dental District and on the Iowa Dental Ethics Committee, was an associate member of St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital and was an active participant in attracting the Rathbun Dam. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club, the Eagles Club and the Appanoose Country Club. He retired from dentistry in 1988. He then drove the school bus for the handicapped for 2 1/2 years for Centerville schools.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Lange Funeral Home where friends may call all day today.
A memorial has been established to St. Mary's Catholic School and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
