Noble James Main

Noble James "Jim" Main of Phoenix, Arizona, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at the home of his daughter in Tipton, Missouri.

The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Monday at College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe, Kansas.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home in Olathe, Kansas.

Dr. Main was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Moravia, the son of Forrest and Doris Main. He married Elaine Kathryn Medrud in 1951. She died 1994. He married Maureen McNaughton.

Dr. Main taught public music in Moravia, Green Mountain and Oskaloosa. His career led him to Bethany Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma, as a professor of vocal music and choir director. Later, he was part of the founding faculty of Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas, and spent time serving at European Nazarene Bible College in Busingen, Germany.

He was an excellent vocalist, pianist and choir director, who traveled with choirs across the United States and Europe.

He enjoyed animals, reading and playing board games.

Survivors include: three children, Jolaine Price and husband Randy, Dan Main and wife Jacque, and Doug Main and wife Terri; six grandchildren; three stepchildren, Doug Wheeler and wife Suzi, Brad Wheeler and Trisha Wheeler; seven stepgrandchildren; one brother, Jerry Main of Fairfield; two sisters, Robera Gaudry and Carol Martin.

In addition to his wife Elaine Main, he was preceded in death by: one brother, John Main; and one sister, Rosemary Strunk.
