Esther Edwards

Esther R. Edwards, 90, of Centerville died Wednesday morning, Aug. 19, 1992, at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Centerville.

She was born June 25, 1902, in Ringsted to Jens and Lena (Garrde) Rovn. She was united in marriage to Dr. Ralph Edwards in Iowa City on June 3, 1933. He survives.

Also surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Bill (Nancy) Edwards Miner of Springhill, Fla., Mrs John (Patsy) Ryder of Clarkville, Md.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Brady of Algona; a sister, Linda Nielson of Ringsted; a niece, Virginia Hayes of Centerville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Myrrie Rasmesson and Adella Nash; brothers, Ralph, Arnie, Martin and Lehman Rovn.

She graduated from Armstrong High School in Armstrong, attended Morningside College and graduated from University of Iowa School of Nursing. She was the head nurse at the U of I Saner Orthopedic Clinic. She and her husband moved to Centerville in 1936 where she assisted him in his practice.

She was a member of T.T.T., P.E.O. Chapter D, Out Look Club and St. John's Lutheran Church in Ringsted.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3:30 at Lange Funeral Home. Visitation will be held tonight from 7 until 8. Burial will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at St. John's Cemetery in Ringsted.

A memorial has been established to the Long Term Care Unit at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital.
