Scots Resident Passed Away at Age of Seventy-four

The death of James Mitchell, old time Scotch resident of this city, occurred about eight o’clock this morning at the home of his sister-in-law Mrs. Alexander B. Mitchell 100 S. 18th street where he had been making his home for some time before his death. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the home, conducted by Rev. W. P. Clark of the Christian Church and interment will be in the Oakland cemetery.

Mr. Mitchell was 76 years of age at the time of his death, having been born in Scotland in the year 1841. He had lived in this county about 35 years, [thus immigrated about 1882], the latter part of which period was spent in and around Centerville. Althou [sic] Mr. Mitchell had been married five times, he is survived by no children, a brother in Scotland [Francis?] being the only one of his immediate family left.

Mr. Mitchell had been in failing health for some time, owing to his advanced age and finally passed away this morning very peacefully. He leaves a number of nephews and nieces in this vicinity as well as a large number of friends who mourn with relatives at his death. [He was buried in Oakland Cemetery.]
