JESSE C. KENNEY AN
OLD SOLDIER DIES

Another of the old soldiers. Jesse G. Kinney of a mile west of Jerome, passed away Wednesday, June 2, aged 79 years and 9 months. His funeral will be held at the Jerome Methodist church Saturday, June 5, at 2:00 o’clock.
This death takes a member of the G. A. R. post at Centerville, one who has long been a resident of Appanoose county. He came to Iowa in 1843 and to this county about fifty years ago.
He has lived on the farm near Jerome and reared a family, having seven living children, besides his surviving wife. He enlisted in the Third Iowa cavalry in the Civil war and served about two years. The surviving children are: Mrs. Osta Norris, Cedar Rapids; Ova Kinney, Seymour; Mrs. Maude Bowlin, Ottumwa ; Mrs. Effie Houx, Cedar Rapids; George, Frank and Carl, of Jerome.
Mr. Kinney was living on the old home place, with his son, Carl. He was member of the Methodist church at Jerome. He was a man with many Friends in his own community, among
his comrades and over the county generally.
