Peter Laurie

Peter Laurie was born in Fifeshire, Scotland, January 25, 1852, and died at his home in Mystic, Iowa, August 12, 1935, at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 18 days.

On December 31, 1874, he was united in marriage to Mary Paton, and to this union ten children were born. In 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Laurie came to this country settling in Irwin, Pennsylvania where they resided for four years. In 1885 they came to Iowa taking up residence at Seymour. Fifteen years ago they came to Mystic where they have lived ever since.

Mr. Laurie was reared under the influence of the Presbyterian faith. Some 40 years ago he and his wife united with the Presbyterian church in Seymour, Iowa, cherishing his church relationship unto the end. Peter was a good man. And he was a loving husband and father.

He is preceded in death by four children, two of whom died in infancy, and James who passed on in September of 1916, and Mrs. Wm. Griffeths in June of 1918. He leaves to mourn his passing a loving wife and six children: William and Mrs. Floyd Bollman of Mystic, Robert of Mason City, John of Chariton, Mrs. H. W. Lowther of Knoxville, Iowa, and Henry of Buffalo, Wyoming. Besides these he leaves 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the home at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon conducted by the Rev. J. C. Bruvold. Burial was made in the Highland Cemetery.
