DIES AT MORAVIA

Widely Known Citizen Was One
of the County's Susbtantial and
Influential Men

Neal Nash, 83, pioneer resident of Appanoose county and Moravia vicinity, died shortly after midnight this morning, following a long illness. Mr. Nash was one of the county's
susbtantial and widely known residents.
He was born near Walnut city the son of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Nash November 15, 1861. In his early life Mr. Nash engaged in farming and mining.
On December 28, 1882 he united in marriage with Emma Kincaid the ceremony taking place at the Dean McDanel home near Antioch church. Two days before they were married, the young couple were baptized by immersion in a stream nearby and it was necessary to cut a hole in thick ice to perform the rites.
For more than half a century, the Nash family celebrated the wedding anniversaries and Christmases together. The occasions called for a gathering of the entire family circle and were notable events for many years.
With the exception of five years when he lived just across the Monroe county line near Iconium, Mr. Nash has been a lifelong resident of this county.
It was on December 18, 1915 that the family moved to Moravia. Mr. Nash was active in civic affairs there, and served on the town council and held other offices.
In death he leaves his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Della Jennison, of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Icie Perry, of Albia. An only son Bert, preceded the father in death two years ago. There are six children and one grandson-in-law Carl Dicks who is in the armed service. There are six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
