LAURA BAUMAN
STRICKEN HERE;
WAS WELL KNOWN

Mrs. Laura Bauman, 86, widow of the late William Bauman, and a well known and loved pioneer resident of Appanoose county and the Exline vicinity, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy Elledge at 619 North Tenth street in this city last night at approximately 10 o'clock. She had come to Centerville yesterday morning to be with her daughter after having been at the home of her son J. R. Bauman near Sharon Chapel. While downtown here she suffered an heart attack at about 3 p. m. yesterday and after being taken to the Bauman home, suffered two more that resulted in her death at 10 o'clock.
Mrs. Bauman lived with different members of her family during the winter but maintained her home in Exline and resided there during the summer months.
At the time of her death all of her children with the exception of one son W. R. Bauman, who resides in Detroit, Michigan, were at her bedside.
Laura Hileman, was born July 7, 1860 in Jefferson County, Iowa, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Hileman.
Growing to young womanhood she united in marriage with William W. Bauman, May 7,
1883. He subsequently preceded her in death September 30, 1938. Of four sisters and two brothers, now only one survives and she is Mrs. Della Wendland, of Centerville. Those preceding her are Mrs. Addie Fry, Mrs. Lizzie Armour, Margaret Hileman, Grant Hileman and Robert Hileman. There are four children who
survive their mother's death and they are: Mrs. Alma Elledge, J. R. Bauman, W. R. Bauman, and Mrs. Marie Drake; There are 13 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren.
Mrs. Bauman had lived in the Exline vicinity for more than 46 years. She had moved in to Exline following her husband's death, but retained the farm.
Mrs. Bauman had been a Dunkard in her early life and a grandfather had been a Dunkard preacher in this county at Fairview.
In later years she joined the Methodist church at Exline, of which she was a member at
the time of her death. A great host of friends and relatives mourn her passing. Funeral
arrangements are pending the possible return of a grandson, Alfred Bauman, now stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington, and will be announced later.
