WAS WELL KNOWN

Lars Johnson, long time and prominent resident of Exline died Thursday evening at 7 o'clock at the St. Joseph's Mercy hospital where he had been a patient for the past 10 days. He had recently been in the University hospital at Iowa City where he underwent an operation and returned to the St. Joseph's hospital 10 days ago.
Mr. Johnson was born in Sweden September 15, 1880 and was 66 years, six months and 18 days of age at the time of his passing. He was born the son of Nels and Karon Olson and came to the U. S. in 1902.
For a number of years he had been a coal operator at Exline and operated what was known as the Exline Block Coal Company. His last occupation was that of deputy collector for the treasury department, State of Oregon, and he remained at that task until his health failed a few months ago.
Mr. Johnson was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Centerville, and was always active in community work and the Republican party.
In death he leaves his wife, Anna Marie, of Exline, son Theodore Johnson, who is with the Iowa Southern Utilities Company at Washington, Iowa, and two daughters, Mrs. Ed Irelan, of Exline, who operates the Courtesy Beauty Shop, of Centerville, and Mrs. John Liley, of Greensburg, Kansas. There are four grandchildren.
A brother Alfred Johnson, of Burlington survives together with two sisters and a mother in Sweden.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p. m. from the First Lutheran church with the Rev. J. S. Benson officiating. Burial will be in the Exline cemetery and prior to services the body will lie in state at the Johnson funeral home.
