Eurus Johnson, 74
Is Taken Suddenly

Eurus Johnson, 74, lifelong resident of the Exline community, died Sunday night at 11:40 following a stroke which he suffered at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The sudden death comes as a great shock to a host of relatives and friends as Mr. Johnson had been in business at Exline for many years and was widely known.
He was apparently in his usual health Sunday and had attended church and in the afternoon attended the Robinson burial service at Exline. As he got in his car to leave the cemetery he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. He was first taken to his home and then brought to the St. Joseph's hospital where everything possible was done in his behalf. However death followed.
Mr. Johnson was 74 years, 11 months and four days of age and was born on a farm near Exline December 29, 1875, the son of Thomas and Rebecca Johnson.
He united in marriage with Mary Elizabeth Pittman March 24, 1901, and to this union
seven sons were born. His widow, Mary E. Johnson, survives together with the sons as follows: Nova L. Johnson of Iowa City, Ia.; M. Keith Johnson, of Des Moines; Hugh I. Johnson, of Centerville; Earnest P. Johnson, of Des Moines; Harold T. Johnson, of Centerville RFD 1; Eurus Jr. Johnson, of Des Moines; and L. J. Johnson, of Centerville. There are six grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Nina Hudson, of Rockford, ILL., survives. Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by a brother, C. O. Johnson, and sister, Mrs. O. N. Sundeen.
His early life was spent in farming, and he later entered the mercantile business at Exline. He had a hardware, furniture and funeral business there. He was a member of the Christian church and was prominent in its activities.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Johnson funeral home with the Rev. Lyle Armstrong, pastor of the Exline Christian church, officiating. Burial will be in the Exline cemetery.
