- MYSTIC— Ernest Bates, 58, died in Detroit, Mich., at 1 p.m. Monday, June 14, 1954. Body is being returned to Swanson Funeral Home in Mystic Friday morning, and funeral services will be held that afternoon at 2 p.m. from Dale church with burial in Dale cemetery.
Mr. Bates was born in Brazil, Ia., the son of the late John and Mary Bates. He married Olive Vandorn of Rathbun, who survives. Other survivors are a son, Rex, of Norwalk, Mich.; five-sisters, Lillian Powell, Mystic; Glaydis Higby, Bettendorf; Beula Fisher, Newton; Marjorie Isky, Colfax; Stella Wendt, Davenport; two brothers, John of Detroit, Mich.; and Clyde of Mystic; and one niece, Pauline Stevens of Centerville.
