Asenath (McCleary) Teater’s name comes from Genesis.
Background:

Jacob whose name was changed by God to Israel had many sons, the youngest was Joseph. Joseph was favored by his father therefore hated by his older brothers. These brothers sold him to merchants going to Egypt. Joseph wound up a slave to an Egyptian Captain.

The Pharaoh had dreams that no one in his court could interpret. Joseph interpreted these dreams and saved Egypt from famine.

In gratitude the Pharaoh awarded Joseph a wife, the daughter of his chief priest, the daughters name was Asenath.

This can be found in Genesis chapter 41 - paragraph 45.
Thus my great grand mothers name Asenath,

My pronunciation in English would be A see nath
Egyptian pronunciation would probably be As A npht.
Asenath and George Clark Teater are buried in the Concord Cem in Appanoose County. Pictures are shown in the Iowa Gravestone web site.
