Hello Paula:

Would 'Bass' be related to Balser Fultz who was born 28 Oct. 1828 in Germany and who died 17 Mar. 1910? He was called 'Balsy' by my family. He had apparantly lived with them as a farm laborer in approximately 1854-1856 in Waukon, perhaps longer.
It was noted in the Allamakee history that he eventually bought a farm for himself, I believe north of the town. (I'd have to look up the pages for you.)

I was able to take a picture of his gravesite in the Oakland Cemetery while I was visiting Waukon in 2003. He had a wife by the name of Mary E.? who was born 29 Mar. 1835 with no date of death on the stone.
