DENTAL PUPIL CANOE VICTIM at IOWA CITY
The body of Donald Kelley, 22 year old Waterville youth, was found in the Iowa River at 4:15 o'clock this afternoon. He had been dead two hours.
Kelley, who was a sophomore in the school of dentistry at the University of Iowa, rented a canoe at the Fitzgerald boathouse about 11:00 o'clock this morning and went on the river alone. Records at the boathouse showed that he had gone out alone for the last few days. There were no eye witnesses to the drowning, but the overturned canoe was found on the river about 1 o'clock.
After three hours' search directed by David Armbruster, swimming coach, the body was found in water ten feet deep.
A twin brother, Norbert Kelley, is a junior in the college of dentistry also. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Kelley, live in Waterville.
Coroner George Maresh said that the death was due to accidental drowning.
