I just found out that my Husband's GG Grandfather drownd in the Mississippi River abt July/August 1861. He lived in Taylor Twp & was a farmer. He was born in Ireland abt 1802 & lived in Boston Ma. before moving to Iowa with his family around 1851, Margaret his wife & 5 children. Are there any newspapers or records that would tell about the drowning?
After he died Margaret remarried a James Roach Feb. 10, 1866.She died Sept. 1871 & I would like to know where she is buried. James Roach was living with Rev. Peter McManus in 1880 & died Dec. 18, 1899 & was buried at St. Joseph Catholic Ce. (now Paint Rock Cem.?) Perhaps Margaret Hays Roach is also buried there & Dennis, her 1st husband if they found him.
There are 3 children I cannot account for. Ellen bn 1843, Mathew bn 1847 & James bn 1861 in Allamakee Co. Taylor twp.
