Geo. Mous or Mauss death date

The New Albin Globe, July 10, 1901, reported the following:

"The remains of Geo. Mous of Silver Creek were brought to New Albin yesterday from the St. Francis hospital, LaCrosse, where deceased recently underwent an operation for liver trouble."

'Woodmansee' records the burial of George Mauss (1847- Dec 15, 1901) in Lycurgus cemetery, which doesn't 'fit' with this newspaper note but I'm unable to find a Geo. Mous in Allamakee county at any date. Any input is appreciated. I am not a Mous or Mauss researcher but would like to put the death note on the Obit board if I can confirm who he is, or what the correct dates might be.
