Ask for help from the LCMS (Lutheran Chruch -Missouri Synod) Iowa District East Office in Marion, IA or from the WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod) office which I believe may be in Milwaukee. These are the two largest predominantly German Lutheran bodies. The old church may have been independent or it may have been affiliated with a predecessor of one of these present-day church bodies.
