What happened to Christian Scherer?

In 1860 census he was a painter, age 53, living in Lansing, IA, with his wife Wilhelmine and his two stepchildren Mary and Ernest Meinhart.

In Sept. 1860 he deeded his house at Lot 4, Block 18, Lansing, to wife Wilhelmine.

In 1861, Wilhelmine deeded house to August Bokemeyer/Boeckemeier. Deed dated March 30, 1861, filed Aug 27, 1861.

In 1865 KS Census, Wilhelmine was living with her daughter Mary (Meinhardt) Hertha, son-in-law John Hertha and a 5-month-old baby, Mary, in Atchison.

I cannot locate anything else on Christian Scherer or baby Mary. Can anybody help me?
