Diane L. Batterson, 34, of Le Mars, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, as a result of a pulmonary embolism.
Diane Lynn Batterson was born Sept. 18, 1969 at Postville, the daughter of Dennis and Jeanne (Moeller) Muchow. During her high school years at Oelwein, she played on the golf team and participated in band and drama. Diane graduated from Oelwein High School in 1988. She later attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, where she earned her bachelor of arts degree in biochemistry, molecular biology and biology.

On Sept. 15, 1990, Diane and James Batterson were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. They made their home in Oelwein while Diane finished her college degree. Diane and James lived for a short time in Ottumwa, before moving to Le Mars in 1992. Diane was the microbiology laboratory supervisor at Wells' Dairy Incorporated. She was recognized by the Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce as Boss of the Quarter in 2002.

Diane served as the co-chairman of Relay for Life, Plymouth County. She enjoyed crafting, knitting, gardening and all types of travel. She especially loved to design creative home d?cor. Diane was a very organized person who was always present and could handle any situation placed before her.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, James of Le Mars; her mother, Jeanne Muchow of Henderson, Nev.; her father, Dennis Muchow of West Union; her grandmothers, Helen Moeller of Strawberry Point and Ruby Muchow of West Union; her mother-in-law, Lilyan Batterson of Oelwein; aunts and uncles, Barb and Terry Phelps of Winfield, Pat and Ben Hunsberger of Elgin, Jim and Alice Moeller of Stanley, Larry and Vicki Moeller of Sacramento, Calif., JoAnne and Bill Andersen of Montpelier, N.D.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Laurie (Batterson) and Steven Bunn of Oelwein, Brian and Becky Batterson of Oelwein, Jeffrey Batterson of Denver, Iowa, Christine (Batterson) and Mark Cheli of Frederick, Md.; nieces Heather Brown, Kassandra Batterson, Jade Bunn, Catherine Cheli, and nephews Brandon Batterson, Jackson Brown, Beau Batterson and Joey Cheli.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Guy Muchow and Les Moeller; and her father-in-law Walter J. Batterson

Funeral services will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday with the family present beginning at 4 p.m. Funeral services will also take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein.
