Harold "Junior" Spores

Funeral services for Junior Spores were held Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in the Forest Mills United Methodist Church, rural, Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Richard A. Iles officiated. The organist was Priscilla Miene and the soloist was Walter Johnson. Casket Bearers were: Derk Radloff, Chad Radloff, Gene Gerndt, Gaylord Spores, Paul Knoll, Scott Bollman, and the Honorary Casket Bearers were: Jessica Knoll, Shawn Knoll, Bill Radloff, Al Ready, Greg Miller, Lynn Morrow. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery at McGregor, Iowa. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Harold "Junior" Spores was born May 19, 1936, at Dorchester, Iowa, to Harold Spores (Sr.) and Anna Marguerite (Schultz) Spores. He passed away Friday, December 23, 2005, in the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin at the age of 69 years, 7 months, and 4 days.

Junior attended school at Dorchester, Iowa. During his youth, Junior found work with the local men who worked at cutting ties and various other jobs.

Junior was married to Rita Virginia Gerndt on July 1, 1961 in the First Presbyterian Church at Waukon, Iowa, by the Reverend Tjaden. To this union a daughter, Christine was born. They lived on a farm near Dorchester, where he worked as a farm hand. They moved to the Radloff farm near Luana, where Junior has worked for over 41 years.

Junior enjoyed going to garage sales, but his greatest loves were his family and grandchildren and going fishing. He was devoted to his faith in God and the fellowship of friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a nephew, Johnnie Gerndt, and a brother-in-law, Ross Gerndt.

Surviving are his wife, Rita, a daughter, Christine (Paul) Knoll, New Hampton, Iowa, two grandchildren, Jessica and Shawn, a brother-in-law, Robert (Ruth) Gerndt, McGregor, Iowa, three aunts, Esther, Waukon, Loretta, New Albin, and Luaine, Decorah, and one niece, two nephews, and many cousins.

Junior was a member of the Forest Mills Church.
