Adele Howe

Adele A. Howe, 86, Waukon, died Sunday, September 25, 2005, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 28, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Waukon, with Father Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, rural Waukon. Hanson Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Adele Agnes was born February 19, 1919, in Spring Grove, Minn., the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Duffy) Schulte. After high school, she attended Waukon Junior College and graduated in 1937.

She married Walter M. Howe September 5, 1942, in Bakersfield, Calif. Adele was a homemaker and mother of seven children. She also worked as a telephone operator, for the soil conservation service, and also was the volunteer manager for the youth center at St. Patrick’s School for 14 years. She was well known and respected for her work with the youth center.

During her life Adele lived in many different places, including Dorchester and Waukon, Iowa; Bakersfield, Calif.; Galveston, Texas; and Jacksonville, Fla.

Adele was involved with the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her children, Donna Points of Boise, Idaho, Ronald Howe of Miami, Fla., Robert Howe of Solon, Iowa, Lynn Prondzinski of Winona, Minn., Kevin Howe of Omaha, Neb., Colin Howe of Davenport, Iowa, and Annamarie Howe of Las Vegas, Nev.; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Aileen Hammel of Cresco, Karen Hammel of Cedar Rapids, and Leon Schulte of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, and eight siblings, Lorraine Monserud, Rita May, Harold Schulte, Blanche McClain, Madonna Blocker, Donald Schulte, Dale Schulte, and Joan Troendle.

Casketbearers were Jeff May, Eaton Coté, Mitchell Howe, Eric Howe, Bryan Schulte, and Greg Hammel.
