Marjorie Winter

Funeral services for Marjorie Winter were held Monday, November 14, 2005, at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. Rev. Gary Catterson officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie Alice was born February 28, 1928, to Carl and Esther (Hermeier) Kugel, at the Waukon Hospital. She passed away Thursday, November 10, 2005, in University of Iowa Hospital and Clinic, Iowa City, at the age of 77.

She attended rural schools in Ludlow Township and graduated from Waukon High School in 1946. Marjorie took Normal Training and taught in the rural school system.

Marjorie was married to Calvin Winter May 23, 1948, at the home of her parents. To this union six children were born. They lived in the Postville area. Calvin died June 12, 1962.

Marjorie was employed at the Groth Turkey Produce Plant. She attended classes at Northeast Iowa Community College and worked as a homemaker’s aide for several years.

Marjorie enjoyed cooking, especially homemade soup and baking bread, and taking care of the grandchildren. She crocheted numerous items over the years. Marjorie had a talent for making cakes for special occasions such as birthdays, graduations, and weddings. She also enjoyed sewing. Marjorie made everything from coats to wedding dresses, sewing for her own children as well as nieces and nephews.

Marjorie was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. For several years she was in charge of the kitchen during Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by her children, Marlin (Pam) Winter of West Memphis, Ariz., Terry (Karen) Winter of Postville, Mary (Keith) Burger of Marshall, Minn., Jane Kimber and special friend Daryl Jahnke of Waukon, Joan (Mark) Seegmiller of Postville, and Vickie (Tom) Miller of Luana; 18 grandchildren, Aaron (Rebecca) Winter, Adam Winter, Lizbeth Winter, Eric Winter, Toni Burger, Jason (Alissa) Burger, Joel Burger, Brad Seegmiller, Brooke Seegmiller, Brittany Seegmiller, Marie Kimber, Kristy Kimber, Lori Kimber, Valarie Kimber, Sam Miller, Adam (Tanya) Miller, Jessica Miller, and Brandi Miller; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Barbara) Kugel of Lansing, Mich., and Eldo Kugel of Postville; two sisters, LaVonne Ewing and Ileta Oakland, both of Waukon; five sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Kugel, Janice Winter, Marilyn Winter, Margaret (Calvin) Shindoll, and Virginia Halverson, all of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Calvin; one grandson, Brian Seegmiller; one brother, Roger Kugel; one sister, Ruth E. (Hubert) Cooper; five brothers-in-law, Edwin Winter, Cletus Winter, Lynn Halverson, Egbert Ewing, and Herman Oakland; and one sister-in-law, Marjorie Kugel.

Casketbearers were Aaron Winter, Adam Winter, Eric Winter, Joel Burger, Jason Burger, Brad Seegmiller, Sam Miller, and Adam Miller.
