Ruby Evans

Ruby J. Evans, 78, of Waukon, Iowa, died Thursday, November 10, 2005, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, November 14, at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Ruby June was born March 22, 1927, in Waukon, the daughter of Edward and Mattie E. (Winkie) Becker. She was baptized and confirmed at Zalmona Presbyterian Church, attended the rural “Krumme School”, and graduated from Waukon High School. For a number of years Ruby lived and worked in La Crosse, Wis.

June 4, 1953, she married Kenneth L. Evans at her parents’ home in Waukon. Locally, Ruby spent her working years as a long-time sales clerk for the Cronin Variety Store in Waukon. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its ladies organizations and also Post 4117 of the VFW Auxiliary. Playing 500 with friends, doing handiwork and crafts and crocheting were some of Ruby’s favorite pastimes. She was also an excellent baker, and her family and neighbors looked forward to her homemade breads and rolls.

Survivors include her two sons, William and Joseph; a brother, Neil (Maureen) Becker; and a sister, Mary Lou (Albert) Bublitz, all of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Kenneth, who died in 1988; and a brother, Dale Becker.

Casketbearers were Mike, Tim, and Jason Becker; Dennis Miller; Mike Jolliff; and Sam
Jones.
