Julia J. Bakke

Julia J. Bakke, 91, of Waukon, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 13 at West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Rev. Harvey Abrahamson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements.

Julia Johanna Bakke was born June 3, 1912, on the rural Waterville, Iowa, farm of her parents, Melvin J. and Minnie N. (Johnson) Bakke. She was baptized by Rev. Guttebo and confirmed by Rev. Unseth at the West Paint Creek Synod Lutheran Church, where she was later a member of Ladies Aid. Julia attended the rural Elon School.

Following school she helped her parents with the farm work until they moved to Waukon in 1960. She has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center since her father's death in 1977. Julia enjoyed music, liked to play the piano and organ, and often entertained visitors both at her home and her room at Good Samaritan. She also liked pets, especially cats, and shopping for gifts for friends. Some of her favorite times were her birthday parties, when she got a chance to visit with many friends and relatives.

She is survived by numerous cousins and was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.

Casketbearers were Joseph, Donald, Charles, and John P. Bakke; Gordon Gilbertson; Richard Hansmeier; Jim Winke; Herman Willger; and Roger Martin.
