Grace Hayes
On Thursday, March 25, 2004, Grace Hayes, 87, one of the best and dearest Mothers who ever lived, went to be with Almighty Yahweh God and her Blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Grace Angie Hayes, nee Swenson, the youngest daughter of Seward L. and Lucy (Gilson) Swenson, was born August 13, 1916, on a farm, located in the Yellow River Valley, near Forest Mills, in Allamakee County, Iowa.
Grace married Herbert George Hayes February 25, 1939. Herbert Hayes died January 23, 1986.
Herbert Hayes was a Superintendent of Schools for many years and Grace faithfully served her husband well as a very faithful wife and mother of their three children, Verlyn, Ronda, and Evern. Grace was a very wonderful homemaker. She was a very excellent cook. She made sure every dinner and supper had meat and potatoes and ample vegetables. She liked to bake cookies, cakes, and pies. She was noted for her very delicious apple pies and pumpkin pies. Also, she always made sure that her freshly baked cookies were just getting done when her three children arrived home from school for a special aroma and taste treat.
Grace and her husband Herbert Hayes were both baptized by immersion June 8, 1971, into their Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and Herbert Hayes were both members of the Yale Church of Christ. Brother Eugene Lockling baptized them.
Grace and her husband, Herbert Hayes, developed a very successful business with Shaklee Corporation and they were very prominent Shaklee Sales Leaders and Coordinators.
Grace became a resident of Northgate Care Center Nursing Home in Waukon, where she resided until the present. Grace owned the former Sander-Wonderlich property in Waukon and the former Hendrick-Sheridan Estate in Waukon.
Besides her three children and their respective families, Grace is survived by her sister, Pearl Honn of Waukon. Besides her parents, Grace was predeceased by her eldest brother, Lloyd Swenson, her eldest sister, Ethel Barr, her sisters Mabel Pearson and Mildred Johnson, and her youngest brother, Harley Swenson.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 29 at Hanson's Funeral Home in Waukon. Officiating Pastors were Ron Ahlgren and James Kisner, ministers from the Church of Christ in Viroqua, Wis. She was buried in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon, beside her husband Herbert.
