Glenn A. Spiegler

Glenn A. Spiegler, 80, of Waukon, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, April 12 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Arthur Spiegler was born June 15, 1923, on the rural Dorchester, Iowa, farm of his parents, John and Ella (Meyer) Spiegler. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Eitzen, Minn., and attended Dorchester area schools. Following school he worked for several farmers in the Dorchester area, then lived in Cedar Rapids for a short time.

On November 19, 1947, he marred Luella Hansmeier at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Glenn and Luella farmed in Ludlow Township, maintaining a dairy herd and raising hogs, beef cattle, and crops. They retired and moved to Waukon in 2002.

He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, the Elks Lodge in Decorah, and Allamakee County Farm Bureau. Glenn enjoyed the farming life and took great pride in their farm. He also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Luella of Waukon; two daughters, Sally (William) Seiter of Onalaska, Wis., and Nancy (Dennis) Sweeney of Waukon; four grandchildren, Nick and Bill Seiter, Jane Erickson, and Kent Sweeney; three great-grandchildren; and a sister Arvilla Ohlgren of Minneapolis, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale; and an infant sister, Dorothy May.

Honorary casketbearers were Dale Hesse, Frank Hager, Walter Teslow, Ben Kruger, J. J. McCormick, and Jim, Bob, and Ron Opfer. Casketbearers were William, Nick, and Bill Seiter, Dennis and Kent Sweeney, Jon Erickson, Roger Kruger, and Herman Willger.
