William “Bill” Frederick Louis Schuttemeier, 82, of Spring Grove died suddenly Thursday, May 13, 2004 at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI of an intracerebral hemorrhage.
He was born on October 19, 1921, in Allamakee County, IA, to William and Caroline (Meyer) Schuttemeier. He was a lifelong resident of the Spring Grove area. Bill attended country schools in rural Eitzen.
On June 20, 1946, Bill married Arlene Virginia Gulbranson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. The couple were married for fifty-seven years.
After their marriage, the couple farmed until 1951. Bill then worked for Tri-State Breeders for thirty-six years until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, a long term Spring Grove city councilman, a Tri-State 100,000 Cow Club member, and a “World Class” hunter, fisherman and card player.
Survivors include his wife Arlene, five daughters, Pearl (Allen) Kockenderfer, Linda (Rolf) Hanson, Joanne (Gary) Melbostad, Audrey (Jim) Onstad, and Connie (Rudy) Simon; two brothers, Walter and Fremont; and one sister, Clara Headington. Bill and Arlene had fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Armin and Elmer, and his sister Edna.
Services will be Monday, May 17 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Pastor Zane Anderson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be given to Trinity’s Radio Broadcast program, the Spring Grove public library, and the Spring Grove ambulance service.
