On Saturday morning, Jan. 2nd at 8:30 o’clock, the Angel of Death once more summoned a devoted husband, loving father and friend of everyone– August Renk, who died after an illness of only two days. On the morning of Dec. 31st while going out to do his chores he fell on the ice, seeming to be unhurt, but became unconscious a short time after, and remained in that condition until the end.

August Renk, son of the late Henry Renk and Dorothea (Meyer) Renk, was born in Hanover, Germany, July 17, 1882. When three years of age in 1885, he came to America with his parents, settling on a farm in Union City township, and on which farm he spent most all of his life, which he purchased of his father soon after his marriage. On April 11, 1897, he was confirmed by the late Rev. B. Vogelsan, and on Dec. 21, 1910, was united in marriage to Miss Ida Kurk by the late Rev. K. Bizer. He was a school director and township trustee for a number of years, and was a true and faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Church for a number of years, and was treasurer of the church at the time of his death. He was a home lover, most satisfied to be with his loved ones, a successful farmer; and will be greatly missed by his family, neighbors and friends.

Surviving are his sorely bereft wife, one son Alven, two daughters, Olga and Amanda, all at home, and three brothers, William, Henry and Herman, all of this vicinity; one brother, Fred, preceded him in death some years ago.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 5th at one o’clock at the home, and at 1:30 at the St. John’s church of Wheatland. It was one of the largest attended funerals held in Wheatland. Burial took place in the church cemetery.

Pall bearers were the six elders of the church, namely: Alfred Krueger, Henry Vonderohe, A.C. Wuennecke, Herman Reinke, Geo. H. Meyer and Henry Bisping. .Rev. A. Suedmeyer officiated.
