John Dennis Ronan, 67, of rural Waukon, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, after a courageous battle with cancer. Private family services were held at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Cemetery.

John Dennis Ronan was born May 15, 1938, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of James Patrick and Margaret Ester (Murphy) Ronan. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Waukon and served in the Army Reserves.

August 19, 1961, he married Betty Ann Hill at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church. Dennis farmed all of his life, taking over the operation of the family farm in 1965. He was currently helping his son follow in his footsteps.

Survivors include four sons, Rod (Helen), Jim (Sara), and Rick (Bridget), all of Waukon, and Ray (Diane) of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two daughters, Rita (Tom) Pfiffner and Rhonda (Kent) Stock, both of Waukon; 11 grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Jacob, Danny, Cody, Courtney, Elizabeth, John, Matthew, McKayla, and Bethany; and a brother, Richard (Lois) Ronan of Waukesha, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty, who died in 2001; and a granddaughter, Regan Margaret.
