Eugene Knudtson, 77, of Waukon, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 1, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene Lyle Knudtson was born July 7, 1926, at the hospital in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Florence (Bauercamper) Knudtson. He attended the rural "Hanson School" and Waukon High School. Following school, he began farming in the Round Prairie area with his parents.

On April 8, 1956, he married Donna Mae Winke at Zalmona Presbyterian Church in rural Waukon. They began farming his parents' farm and later purchased a neighboring farm where they maintained a registered Holstein dairy herd, raised crops, and kept numerous other kinds of livestock. Gene enjoyed the farming life and was particularly fond of his John Deere equipment and all his various animals. They continued to farm until his retirement in 1988, when they moved to Waukon.

Gene was a member of the Iowa Holstein Association. He loved to play cards and was an avid reader, always staying up on current events. He enjoyed visiting and being around people and collecting miniatures of the farm implements he used.

Survivors include his wife, Donna of Waukon; two daughters, Jolie Knudtson of Tacoma, Wash., and Kim Wheeler of Clive, Iowa; six sons, Jerry, Mark (Tammy), and Scot, all of Waukon, Tom of Marion, Jeff of Concord, Ga., and Ross (Tracey) of Urbandale, Iowa; and five grandchildren, Kayla, Rachel, Taylor, Zach, and Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Casketbearers were his six sons, Jerry, Mark, Tom, Scot, Jeff, and Ross, and James Winke.
