Obituary--Julia Anne Rothermel
On Saturday night Aug. 30, at 11:40 o'clock, Mrs. Julia Anne Rothermel died at her home near Mays Prairie. For 38 years she was ailing and three years ago she had a light stoke which left her nearly helpless. In all her sickness she was well cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Rose May.
Mother Rothermel was born June 15, 1853 in Dubuque county, Iowa. When yet a child her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Schwartzhoff, moved to Dorchester, Iowa, in 1855, remaining there for six years, then they went to Brownsville, Minn. On May 6, 1873, she was married to John Rothermel, in Lansing, and made her home at Mays Prairie. To this union six children were born of which two died in infancy. One daughter, Mrs. Andrew Williams, and also her husband, preceded her in death. Those who survive and mourn her departure are: Mrs. Elizabeth Simensen, of Hanover township; Mrs. Rose May, of Mays Prairie, and John Rothermel, of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; also a brother, Leonard, of New Albin, two half sisters and two half brothers in Watertown, S.D., and nearby; also three grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the family home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2d. Rev. G. H. Kohler officiating. Te choir, partly from New Albin and partly from Mays Prairie, rendered a few beautiful songs.
Following the service the remains were taken to Oak Hill cemetery, near Lansing, for burial.
