Doris Mae Meyer

Doris Mae Meyer, daughter of Kenneth (Olson) Ellis, was born June 15, 1929 in Marathon County, Wis. She died in Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon on April 9, 1994. She was 64.

She was baptized Aug. 25, 1929 in the Clermont Lutheran Church by the Rev. G. Gunsten and confirmed Sept. 12, 1943 in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marathon County, Wis. by the Rev. W. O. Nommensen. Doris spent her childhood in Rangeline, Wis. She attended the Willis County grade school and was graduated from the Marshfield High School.

On Sept. 6, 1947 she married Harold E. "Hoot" Meyer in Day Township, Marathon County, Wis. To this union three children were born. They have lived their entire life in Postville. Doris had been employed at the Groth Packing Co. and later at the Phillip's 66 Cafe. She also managed the "Koffee Shop." When the Good Samaritan Center opened in Postville, she was employed as the cook and dietician. For 17 years, Doris and "Hoot" owned and operated Meyer's 66 Cafe. Doris enjoyed camping and fishing, spending time with their grandchildren, working with ceramics, and knitting and crocheting. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Gene Meyer; and a sister, Jane Ruckdaschel. She is survived by her husband Harold; a daughter Linda and her husband Donald Muchow of Luana; a son Terry and his wife Robin of Postville; five grandchildren, Dustan Berns, Derek Muchow, Kyle Muchow, Leah Meyer, and Jeremy Meyer; two brothers, Eugene Ellis and his wife Karen of Clermont, and Dale Ellis and his wife Connie of Elgin; and two sisters, Betty Helgerson and her husband Milo and Donna Harris, all of Postville.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 13, 1994 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, the Rev. Charles W. Miller officiating. The Schutte Funeral service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Rodney Smith, Bruce Helgerson, Robert Schroeder, Robert Gruhn, Richard Steffans, Edwin Hawkins, Mark Olson, and Donald Folsom.
