Walter W. Martie

Funeral services for Mr. Walter Martie were held in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, Saturday, April 11, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Dick Harberts, officiating. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Walter Wellman Martie, son of Joseph and Caroline Peterson Martie, was born August 5, 1904, in Clayton County between Elgin and Elkader. He was baptized on November 6, 1904. He grew up in that area and received his education in rural schools.

On March 9, 1927, he was united in marriage to Clara Viola Nelson. To this union two children were born: Charldine and Wayne. His entire life was spent farming around Clermont and Elgin. In 1947 they moved to Postville.

Walter became ill last fall and had surgery. He was hospitalized Saturday, April 4, and passed away on Thursday, April 9, at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

Mr. Martie was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Martie, and two brothers, Alfred and Nicholie.

Walter is survived by his wife, Clara, and two children: Mrs. Charldine Jones of Postville, and Wayne Martie of Postville. Also one sister, Mrs. Oscar (Cornelia) Holden of Bonaparte; two brothers, Louis Martie of Osage, and Merlin Martie of Castalia. There are four grandchildren and one great grandchild, and other relatives.
