Clara Martie

Services for Clara Martie were Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. Rev. Terrance Hennesy officiated.

Beverly Bacon was the organist and a solo was sung by Evelyn Seeley. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Clara Viola Martie, daughter of Christ and Carrie (Kittelson) Nelson, was born June 1, 1905. She died Nov. 12 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.

She was baptized and confirmed at the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder.

She attended rural schools near Gunder. March 9, 1927 she married Walter Martie at Elkader. They had 2 children. They farmed in the Clermont-Elgin area and moved near Postville in 1947.

She is preceded in death by her husband who died April 9, 1970; a daughter, Charldine; a brother, Clarence Nelson, and 4 sisters, Mary (Mrs. Otto Wulner**), Laura (Mrs. Peter Madsen), Pearl (Mrs. Alfred Martie) and Ida (Mrs. Martin Halvorson).

Surviving are a son, Wayne, Postville, 4 grandchildren, Shelva (Mrs. Dennis Kohrs), Randy, Larry and LaVonne Martie, 3 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Ed Nelson of Postville.

Casket bearers were Eldo Larson, Ronald Upton, Marlin Pausch, Harold Peterson, Gerald Heck and Harold Heins.

**Not certain on this spelling as the paper is tore, but this is as close as I can make out.
