Merlin Martie

Funeral services for Merlin M. Martie were held on Tuesday, April 17, 1990 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. The Rev. Howard W. Wolfgram officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia.

Merlin Melvin Martie, son of Joseph and Caroline (Peterson) Martie, was born March 17, 1918, in Marion Township, near Elgin, Iowa. He died Sunday morning, April 15, 1990 in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, Iowa.

He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith as an infant. Merlin attended the rural school near his home.

On October 17, 1938 he was married to Marjorie Thelma Christianson at Elkader, Iowa. They had 4 children. They have lived in the Postville and Castalia areas all of their lives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Alfred, Nicholi, Louie and Walter, and a sister, Cornelia Holden.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie, a son, Mervin of Mineral Pt., WI; 3 daughters, Dorothy Reed of Prairie du Chien, WI; Marlene Mengelsen of Spencer, IA; and Linda Mundt of Ossian, 12 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Casket Bearers: Joel Holden, Les Greverson, Wayne Martie, Leo Martie, Dennis Kohrs and Alfred Cole.
