FUNERAL SERVICES FOR HERMAN GELO HELD SATURDAY AFTERNOON

The funeral of Herman Gelo, 71, well known retired farmer of Waukon was held Saturday afternoon from Martin Bros. Funeral parlors to the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church. Serives were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E.L. Henning with burial in Oakland cemetery.

Casket bearers were H.G. Ludeman, Herbert Hartong, Ray Shogren, Robert Ahlstrom, Floyd Larson, and Leo Promnitz.

Mr. Gelo died Wednesday evening at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon where he had been a patient for a week. Two years ago submitted to major surgery at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

He was born on a farm near Dorchester on September 14, 1883, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gelo, being one of six children. When young he with his family, moved to a farm in Center Township. On June 9, 1908 he was married to Miss Mabel Ebner the ceremony being performed at the home of the latter parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ebner in French Creek. They made their home on the Gelo homestead in Center Township until 1945 when they returned to Waukon.

Mr. Gelo is survived by his widow, one son, Edwin on the home farm and three daughters who are Miss Leona at home, a rural school teacher; Mrs. Glen Carlson (Cora) Lansing; and Mrs. Clarence Bieber (Bernice) of near Waterville. Also surviving are six grandchildren and an only sister, Mrs. Arnold Moellerman of St. Paul, Minn. A sister, Mrs. Joe Philippi of St. Paul and 4 brothers preceded him in death.

Among the out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Messr and Mmes Arnold Moellerman, Elmer Purvis, Cletus Phillippi and family, Joe Phillippi, Sr., Mrs. Ella Gelo, Harold and Leo Moellerman and Mrs. James Thorne, all of St. Paul or Minneapolis.
