Mrs. August Batteen, nee Helen Rothermel, whose death occurred in New Albin on Thursday, Nov. 13, of cancer, was born in Ohio on August 8, 1851, removed to Iowa with her parents and was married to August Batteen about forty years ago. She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are grown. Her husband and two children preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday at 1 o'clock, Rev. K. Bizer officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the New Albin cemetery.
