Carl Tepesch

Carl F. Tepesch, 85, of Paola, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005, at his home. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 21, 2005, at Wilson & Son Funeral Home in Paola, with Father Joe Cramer officiating. Burial was in Louisburg Cemetery at Louisburg, Kansas, with full military honors.

Carl was born August 2, 1919, in Waukon, Iowa, to Frederick and Celia Brady Tepesch. He grew up in the Waukon area and graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic School. Shortly after graduating, Carl joined the Civilian Conservation Corps before enlisting in the US Army. Carl was stationed at Fort Riley and Fort Campbell before being deployed in the European Theater in World War II. While serving his country he was injured and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

After being discharged from the Army in 1945, Carl returned home and lived a short time there before moving to Kansas City. It was in Kansas City Carl met Virginia Bybee and they were united in marriage February 5, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas. To this union four children were born: Bill, James, Thomas, and Michael. After their marriage, they lived in Kansas City before making their home in Miami County, Kansas, in 1948.

Carl worked for the Sunflower Ordinance Plant in De Soto during the Korean War and was then employed by Sinclair-Valentine as a mill operator before retiring after 25 years of service with the company. Carl was a member of the Milwright Union, through Sinclair-Valentine. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with his family.

His parents, Frederick and Celia, and five sisters, Katharine Dohnalek, Agnes Kirkpatrick, Dorothy Wiltgen, Janet Lawson, and Sally Tepesch preceded him in death.

Carl leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Virginia Tepesch; Charles “Bill” Tepesch, of Lenexa, Kansas, James E. Tepesch and Thomas W. Tepesch of Olathe, Kansas, and Michael L. Tepesch of Bonner Springs, Kansas; three sisters, Stella Huinker, of Monona, Patricia Wepler, of Waterloo, and Bernadette Lawlor, of Ames; two brothers, Thomas J. Tepesch of Independence, Mo., and Francis “Bill” Tepesch, of Waukon; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.
