Rites Held For Rudy Martens

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville for Rudolph H. Martens, who passed away January 22 at Oakdale. The Rev. Charles E. Witt and the Rev. Marlo Petersen, pastors of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, were in charge of the rites. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

Rudolph Henry Martens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Martens, was born in Elkader, Iowa on June 18, 1906. He departed this life on January 22, 1957 while a patient at the State Sanitorium at Oakdale, Iowa, after a lingering illness.

He was baptized on November 25, 1906 and on July 19, 1942 was received as a member by confirmation of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville.

On October 24, 1932 he was united in marriage to Mildred Klemme. To this union was born one daughter, Dorothy. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Martens farmed for 12 years near Postville. They later moved to a farm near Monona where Mr. Martens lived until his death.

Mr. Martens is survived by his wife and daughter, three half brothers, John of Ossian, Harlan and Leonard of Waterloo, and one sister, Billes of Lansing.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three half brothers, Carl, Harvey, and Harley, and one sister, Edith.
