Robert Geno

Robert “Bob” Geno, 68, of Harpers Ferry, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis., following a courageous battle with heart disease.

Robert James was born April 28, 1937, in Elkader to Albert and Lucy (Needham) Geno. Bob graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School and Meat Cutting School.

Bob was a meat cutter for a short period of time and then owned and operated Geno’s Tavern in Elkader. For the majority of his life, Bob was a lineman for L.E. Meyer’s Company.

Bob met and married Patricia Farrell July 6, 1973. He moved his family to Harpers Ferry, where he owned and operated a river front resort. Bob auctioneered and continued to sell real estate for the remainder of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Geno of Harpers Ferry; three children, Lee Todd (Dee) Geno of Hiawatha, Robert “Scott” (Lynn) Geno of Volney, and Julie Lynn (Wes) Heying of Monona; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma (Leland) Olson of St. Olaf; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alberta French.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elkader Friday, July 1, with Rev. Paul Peters celebrating. Leonard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Honorary casketbearers were Earl Meeter, Harley Luster, Maury Glesne, Clem Schulte, and Dick Heiden. Casketbearers were Dale Wilson, Glen Fortsch, Duane Scheffert, Lenny Needham, Jeff Madlom, and Jerry Moyna.
