Carlotta White was born September 9, 1904, in Hardwick, Minn., the daughter of Andrew and Rena (Larson) Lier. She was baptized and confirmed at West Prairie Lutheran Church in Lennox, S.D., and educated in the rural Lennox area schools.

Carlotta was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church. She liked to garden and raise flowers and did a lot of canning when she lived on the farm. She was a good cook and baker, particularly known for her apple pies, and loved to host family holiday events. She also enjoyed traveling with family, working jigsaw puzzles, and telling stories of the old days.
