Funeral services are being held this afternoon (Wednesday), 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church for Wm. F. Baltz, 76, who passed away Sunday following a brief illness. Burial will be in the Postville Cemetery. The Rev. Charles E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's, will officiate.

Wilhelm August Frederick Baltz was born in Mecklenberg, Staulitz, Germany on May 3, 1882, the son of Carl Baltz and his wife Minnie Boelow. He was baptized in Germany before coming to this country with his parents in 1882. He was confirmed in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church by the Rev. F. H. Schumann on April 11, 1897, and remained active in the Church and Sunday School throughout his entire life.

He was married to Matilda S. Meyer on February 23/28 [paper is tore here], 1909. They began farming immediately in Clayton county, where they lived until 1945, when they moved into town. To this union were born two children, one son, Arthur, of Postville, and one daughter, Lurene, Mrs. Victor Walter, of Postville.

Mr. Baltz was active in community and church life as long as he was able. He served for a number of years on the Church Council of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Adult Bible Class. He served on the Postville Cooperative Creamery board, the Farmer's Store board and the Postville Farmer's Telephone Company board.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ida Baltz, of Postville. He is survived by his wife, his two children, Arthur and Lurene, two brothers, Fred L. Baltz of Postville and August Baltz, two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Baltz passed away on Sunday, August 3, 1958 at his home after a brief illness, at the age of 76 years and three months.
