Funeral services were held Saturday, September 22, 1973 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran church, Postville for Matilda A. Baltz, who died September 20, 1973 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville. The Rev. Norman Ullestad officiated.
Mrs. Matilda Sophia Meyer Baltz, the daughter of Charles F. Meyer and Sophia Stopperan Meyer, was born December 6, 1885 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church on June 6, 1886 by the Rev. John Gass and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church March 29, 1899.
February 23, 1909, she was married to William F. Baltz by the Rev. Richard Kuehne. To this union two children were born. The couple farmed in Grand Meadow Township until moving to Postville in 1945.
Mrs. Baltz organized the Prosperous Ridge Club of Grand Meadow and served as its first president. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church Women for many years and was an Honor Roll member.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Wm. F. Baltz on August 3, 1958, one sister Mrs. Malinda Heusman, Postville and three brothers, Victor of Monona, Cevert and Glen Meyer of Postville. She is survived by her son Arthur, a daughter Lurene (Mrs. Victor Walter) both of Postville; two grandchildren, Mrs. Joann Martins, Postville and Duane Baltz of Vienna, Virginia; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.
