Joan Marie Lloyd 1942-2005

Joan M. Lloyd, 62, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, died Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa, following a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church in rural Harpers Ferry with Fr. Bernard Grady and Fr. Louis Trzil officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 3 p.m. Scripture Service.

Joan Marie was born July 19, 1942, in Harpers Ferry, the daughter of Joseph and Viola (Crowley) Saddler. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry and attended Harpers Ferry School.

On November 8, 1958, she married Robert William Lloyd at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Joan worked for a short time for Northern Engraving in Waukon before beginning a career with 3M in Prairie du Chien, where she stayed for over 30 years. She was a hard working mother, holding down a full time job and raising seven children. Joan was a member of St. Pius at Cherry Mound Catholic Church.

When she had time to relax she liked working jigsaw puzzles, collecting knick-knacks, shopping, and an occasional trip to the casino. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to the western states, and spending time with her dog, Yogi. She loved family times and visits from her grandchildren, when the boys could count on getting a haircut and everyone got a bag of candy.

Survivors include five sons, Bill (Sandy), Mike (Gwen), and Rob (Shannon), all of Harpers Ferry, John of Decorah, Iowa, and Randy (Wendy) of Sun Prairie, Wis.; two daughters, Sandy (Bob) Connor of Waukon and Barbara Lloyd of Phoenix, Ariz.; her mother, Vi Traversy of Harpers Ferry; two brothers, Dick (Donna) and Frank Saddler, both of Harpers Ferry; a sister, Marge (Mark) Delaney of Harpers Ferry; and her dear friend, Emmett Larkin of Waukon.

She was preceded in death by her father; her husband Robert, who died in 2000; an infant son, James; and a sister, Marie Koenig.

Her children served as honorary casketbearers. Casketbearers are Bob, Joe, and Bill Saddler, Ron Delaney, Tom Kemp, and Ed Koenig.
