Charles "Halley" Ewing, son of Jacob and Alice Ewing, was born in Post township December 4, 1884 and passed away at the Veterans' Memorial Hospital at Waukon December 20, 1967.
Mr. Ewing received his education at the Evergreen rural school in Post township and grew to manhood in this community. On February 13, 1913 he was united in marriage to Ruby Bray at Forest Mills. They started farming and were engaged in this occupation until they retired in 1959.
To this union was born eight children: Harry of Tama; Ruth, Mrs. Keith Bloxham, of Waukon; Arthur of Waterloo; Keith of Postville; Kenneth of Waukon; Helen, Mrs. James May of Postville; and Charles Jr. of Postville. One son, Willis, preceded him in death.
In 1959 Mr. and Mrs. Ewing retired and moved to Waukon. Mr. Ewing's health gradually failed and they moved to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bloxham's home in the country near Waukon, where they resided until his death.
He leaves to mourn his passing three sisters: Bertha, Mrs. John Thomas of Dubuque; Alfreda, Mrs. Stephen Smith of Postville; Cora, Mrs. Amos Brainard of Luana; 25 grandchildren and 16 (or 18, the number is smeared) great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Forest Mills E. U. B. where he was a member, with Rev. Curtis H. Webster officiating. Burial was made in the Oakland cemetery at Waukon.
